Stash-ghan Progress

I added several more rows this weekend. I'm getting very close to using up all of my bulky scrap stash! It's about 4 feet in diameter now. I'm debating whether or not I want to use some white boucle next.

What about me?

Also, sorry about the laser eyes. I kept trying to fix them but it kept looking creepy so I left them as is.

Cold, Colder, Coldest

Every time I think it can't get any colder, it does. This has, so far, been the worst winter I can remember. We currently have at least a foot of snow on the ground (more like 2-3 feet where it has drifted) and today there is a HIGH of -1 degrees. There is a windchill warning of -30! What is going on? Needless to say, Meiby has not left the house in several days. She's doing a pretty good job of using the puppy pads (she still "misses" occasionally) but she's getting a little stir crazy. Poor pug! I can't wait until it's warm enough to take her on walks again...

6 Point Star Afghan Pattern

This post has been moved to StrandOverFist.com. Please update your bookmarks and check there for more patterns :)

6 point star afghan

I wrote a pattern! This is the first time I've taken the time to write down a pattern of my own. It started from trying out lots of "round ripple" and "star-ghans" and finding what worked best for me and the yarn I had on hand. This was an attempt to use up lots of scrap yarn that I had laying around, most of it being bulky or heavy worsted weight. It hasn't been tested by anyone but me (the photo above is what I've finished so far) so if you have any problems with the pattern, let me know!

Materials needed:
Any bulky weight yarn
size M hook (9mm)

Ch 5, slip stitch into beg. chain to form a ring

row 1: ch2 (counts as first hdc), 11 hdc into ring, sl into top of ch2 to join (12hdc)

row2: ch3 (counts as first dc here and throughout pattern), dc into same stitch, 2dc
into each of remaining stitches, sl st to join (24 dc)

row3: *ch6, skip next 3 dc, sc into next dc* repeat from star 5 times, sl st into first ch to join (6 ch6 spaces)

row4: sl st into first ch6 space, ch3, 2 dc into ch6 space, ch2, 3dc, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) into each space around, sl st to join (6 points made)

row5: ch3, dc into next dc, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in ch2 space, dc into next 2 dc, sk 2 dc, *dc into next 2 dc, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) into ch2 space, dc into next 2 dc, sk 2 dc* around, sl st to join (60 dc)

row6: ch3, dc into next 2 dc, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in ch2 space, dc into next 3 dc, sk 2 dc, *dc into next 3 dc, (2dc, ch2, 3dc) into ch2 space, dc into next 3 dc, sk 2 dc* around, sl st to join (72 dc)

rowX: repeat as row 6 until blanket is as large as you want, each round should have 12 more dc than the last (2 per point). If your blanket isn't laying flat, you can sub in (3dc, ch2, 3dc) instead of (2dc, ch2, 2dc) for a round as needed to even it out. (this would add 24 dc instead of 12 dc for that round). I ended up doing this about every 4th or 5th row.

Something Clicked...

As is turns out, Meiby is now freaked out by all pictures of dogs. Something must have clicked in her little pug head this weekend and she now recognizes still photos of dogs. One night I sat and showed her different pictures of herself, all of which she barked at, and then started showing her pictures of other dogs. She got all worked up about it which is strange because she doesn't bark at other dogs in person. Maybe it's because they're in "her house." Then I showed her pictures of people... and she calmed down. What a strange little pug ;)

Scary Pug!

This is a poorly white balanced photo that I was going to delete but as I was looking at it Meiby started growling and cowering away. She often gets freaked out by mirrors and videos but I've never seen her react that way to a still photo before. For some reason she is terrified by this photo of herself.

Snow!

We got lots of snow this weekend and it's not too cold for Meiby so I took her out to play in the snow for a bit. She loves to jump around in the snow! She found a stick hidden under a layer of snow and chomped on it for a while... I had to drag her away from it. I made sure to take advantage of the natural light and her contrast with the snow to get some cute photos:

Happy Birthday Meiby!

It's Meiby's first birthday today! We didn't have a big celebration or anything but Meiby did get a little bite of my bacon for breakfast and I took some birthday photos and video. The video is her showing off all of her tricks. The photos are really me experimenting with lighting, white balance, flash, etc...
