I wrote a pattern! This is the first time I've taken the time to write down a pattern of my own. It started from trying out lots of "round ripple" and "star-ghans" and finding what worked best for me and the yarn I had on hand. This was an attempt to use up lots of scrap yarn that I had laying around, most of it being bulky or heavy worsted weight. It hasn't been tested by anyone but me (the photo above is what I've finished so far) so if you have any problems with the pattern, let me know!
Materials needed:
Any bulky weight yarn
size M hook (9mm)
Ch 5, slip stitch into beg. chain to form a ring
row 1: ch2 (counts as first hdc), 11 hdc into ring, sl into top of ch2 to join (12hdc)
row2: ch3 (counts as first dc here and throughout pattern), dc into same stitch, 2dc
into each of remaining stitches, sl st to join (24 dc)
row3: *ch6, skip next 3 dc, sc into next dc* repeat from star 5 times, sl st into first ch to join (6 ch6 spaces)
row4: sl st into first ch6 space, ch3, 2 dc into ch6 space, ch2, 3dc, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) into each space around, sl st to join (6 points made)
row5: ch3, dc into next dc, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in ch2 space, dc into next 2 dc, sk 2 dc, *dc into next 2 dc, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) into ch2 space, dc into next 2 dc, sk 2 dc* around, sl st to join (60 dc)
row6: ch3, dc into next 2 dc, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in ch2 space, dc into next 3 dc, sk 2 dc, *dc into next 3 dc, (2dc, ch2, 3dc) into ch2 space, dc into next 3 dc, sk 2 dc* around, sl st to join (72 dc)
rowX: repeat as row 6 until blanket is as large as you want, each round should have 12 more dc than the last (2 per point). If your blanket isn't laying flat, you can sub in (3dc, ch2, 3dc) instead of (2dc, ch2, 2dc) for a round as needed to even it out. (this would add 24 dc instead of 12 dc for that round). I ended up doing this about every 4th or 5th row.

That looks lovely - well done. I've got a load of DK wool so I may well have a go at this with a smaller hook.
Thanks very much
I really love this afghan! Think I may have to round up some yarn to make it... And I love the puggie too! Looks like my Smudge. I have two fawn pugs too...
I've tried this blanket a few times and it keeps curling in....this was on row 7&8.....I used 3dc,ch2,3dc but still curling to much! :(
is this normal?
I recommend using 3dc,ch2,3dc for every row then... at least until it stops curling. If you're still having trouble, try 3dc,ch3,3dc. Let me know if you have any other questions. :)
I really like this pattern - until now I've been using a 12 point pattern - this looks good. I may use 2 str of the WW I want to destash!
Thanks for posting it!

i love it!

Can you please help me, On row 3 I end up with 7 chains :(, I have tried it 5 times and still end up with 7
Renee, I'm not sure where the problem is but make sure you have 24 stitches in row 2 and that you are skipping 3dc in row 3 and not putting your sc into the 3rd dc. Let me know if you still have this problem. If nothing else you can send me a photo and see if I can figure it out that way.
I get the 24 stitches, then after that im messing it up, want me to take a pic of what I have?
Ok here is what I have so far

so at the end of round 3 you have an extra stitch? It's hard to see a problem since the yarn is so fluffy :) Make sure you put a sc in the last stitch of round 3 and then slst to the beginning. The shape looks fine to me so it doesn't seem to be a huge problem.
Ok, Thanks.
Do you happen to know what size from point to point the finished project is?
Well, it’s an open ended pattern. You can just keep working rounds until it’s the size you want.
Ok, thanks Amy
This looks really awesome. Seeing as how it's in the "Star of David" shape, I may make one for my baby sister who's Jewish. She'd love it I'm sure. Since I haven't tried it yet, and I do have a couple of other projects going now, I'll post you later, if I have any questions. Again, this is really cool looking.
this is awsome and creative! I will surely put this to work!!
this is beautiful.. I think im going to try using plarn and make a few rugs :) thank you
I've done other star patterns, but this one is turning out beautiful! Thanks!
